Alternative Analogy

So I saw this commercial the other day and it looked just fine - making the analogy of the crazy job hunt of most websites to a tennis game with a bunch of hacks taking over. Analogy accepted - it makes sense.

And then I saw it a second time, and I realized the reason that the Ladders really made that commercial. Sure it's an analogy to a job hunt, but it's also an analogy to illegal immigration in the USA.

It's not that I'm against people immigrating to America, just like I'm not against everybody in the world learning to love and enjoy playing tennis. However, just opening the floodgates at Wimbledon and telling everybody to go on in and learn to play tennis, is not the right way to do it. I don't mind a bit if, eventually, the whole world wants to immigrate to America. America is the bomb, and I would like to share the blessing with anybody and everybody who wants it, nevertheless, as with anything, there's a proper way and order to accomplish such a task, and it's not just to open the flood gates and tell everybody in a rush to "Come on in!"

Bob Bennett - Wolf in Sheep's clothing

Bob Bennett is the worst!!! He represents everything that is wrong with the Republican party - the fact that they don't represent conservative principles!!

So for some weird reason, Bob Bennett sends emails to my email address, but somehow, he thinks that my mom, Barbara, resides at that email address. Well, it happened to work in my favor this time since I received an email that I'm sure was only intended to be received by the older portion of his consituency. He sent the email so that I could help him fight Obamacare - which thing I would generally be all about. However, it's his reasoning that seems to defy all logic. The subject line of the email was "Fight the cuts in Medicare." Basically, he wants me to help him stop the Obama plan for this reason: This new socialist health care program will detract from an existing socialist health care program.

Here is my supposed conservative Republican representative fighting against those liberal socialist welfare policies - and yet, somehow, his reasoning that I should be on his side is because he wants to keep around the existing liberal socialist welfare policies. Am I missing something? Look Bob, at the basic principle, are you for expanding communist socialist welfare programs or are you against expanding communist socialist welfare programs? If you are a true conservative who is against the principle of government welfare, then why would the subject line of your email read "Fight the cuts in Medicare." I think I know the answer Bob. It's because at the core, you don't actually stand for any real principles at all. You will use and manipulate every thing, person, or priinciple necessary just to get what you want and to collect votes to get re-elected so that you can avoid having to get a real job like the rest of us.

Punish

So obviously this is old news and everybody has already talked about it, but here's the thing: When he first said this I wasn't a Dad, and I kind of thought "oh, he's dumb, but I already know that, so whatever."

Then I happened to come across it again the other day and things have changed. He's now the President of our country and I am now a father and have at least 5 months worth of understanding of parenthood and suddenly my dismay while seeing this the other day was multiplied by 10.

This guy is the leader of our country? Oh Crap.

Batman!!!

I'm a big Spurs fan. Yes I'm a Jazz fan also, but ever since discovering how "the bomb" the Admiral was, I have been a huge Spurs fan. Lots of people like to get after me for this one. They ask me what I could possibly like about the Spurs, at which point I start into the Admiral and his accomplishments. Timmy D, and what a respectable player he is, Tony Parker, who is undeniably the most underrated point guard in the league, incredibly fun to watch, and plus he's French, so I have to root for my French homie. Aside from the superstars, we can also talk about Avery Johnson, Vinnie Del Negro, Steve Kerr, and countless other lesser known players that I really respect. But up until now, there has always been one point where I lose, and that was Manu Ginobili. Let's face it, he's a flopper. While he is a terrific scoring threat, the only way I've been able to defend him is with the harpring strategy. Face it Jazz fans - if Harpring was on the other team, you would hate that guy. He's dirty, scrappy, and vicious, and he gets away with it because he's smart, but you love it - as long as he's on your team. Well it's the same thing with Manu Ginobili. I have had to admit, if he wasn't a spur, I would curse like a sailor every time he flopped and got the call, so my only defense has been the harpring philosophy - Until now. Halloween night and the Argentinian maniac turns into Batman!

Manu Ginobili, you are officially my hero forever! Everybody out there who wants to rip on Manu for flopping and whatever other reason you may come up with - I'll accept your criticism once you have killed a bat with your bare hands.

And by the way, PETA, you idiots represent everything wrong with America today.

Beck vs. Benson

So this is what Glen Beck was saying the other day.

http://www.glennbeck.com/content/articles/article/198/32661/

It turned my mind toward this talk by Ezra Taft Benson.

I don't mean to say Glen Beck is a prophet or anything, but am I totally just stretching it way too far to be seeing similarities?

BCS Championship - Iowa vs. Cincinnati

Wouldn't that be great!!! Picture this: Florida, Bama, and Texas all get a loss before the season ends (not that likely I know, but it would still be awesome!) and Cinci and Iowa coninue undefeated. As the only two unbeaten teams in AQ conferences, it would be mandatory that they go to the championship game right? Imagine the uproar if they didn't. However, I guarantee that after Texas won the Big 12 championship game and their bowl game, and Florida did the same thing in the SEC, Colin Cowherd and all his Cronies would be talking all about how they don't care if the BCS system crowned Iowa champs, they still say that Florida and Texas were better teams, and that is where their vote is going. Now I just need to find a way to get the Gators to lose. hmmmmm.
